3 Modern Architecture Design Trends Explained That Will Make Your Home Exterior An Eye Catcher

Updated: Jun 7

It’s all about first impressions. Whether you want to impress your friends, your neighbors, or investors, it’s really important that you start on the right foot. And what better way to do so than with an appealing home exterior? Here are three modern architecture design trends that will make your project something to talk about:

1. Doors, Windows, and Skylights.

Doors are doors and windows are windows, right? Well, yes, but they’re not all made equal, and you need to know the best fit for your project in order to make it stand out.

Doors come in different types. From the classic, solid wood slab door, the glazed door, and the French door. Even if you have the original slab door in your home project, you can still modify it to make it either of the latter two. That way you can provide an open feel to the construction, without it is actually out in the open.

As for windows, there are plenty of options available but the usual go-to is aluminum or steel casing. These have a metal frame that allows them to slide open and close, a constant design choice nowadays (compared to the early variations).

Not only that you also need to consider exterior sky lightning, namely, the implementation of ambient, flood, and security lights that give your home a more welcoming look at night.

2. Proper Landscaping and Exterior Porches

You can’t have a good home without a good yard. Landscaping goes the extra mile to make your home an eye-catcher, and all it really takes is some minor knowledge in terms of organic décor. Namely: using attractive flowers and plants in your front yard. A color-matching fence. And if you want to go all the way, a pond by the entryway.

Of course, something to note about plant décor is that you should consider purchasing plants resilient to the area's climate. Otherwise, you’ll be having a brown lawn by the time winter passes.

Now, going green is one thing, but you also need to have a fetching porch that gives use to all that open space. The great thing about porches is that they’re easy to implement and build. It’s an extension of your living space and it doubles up as both a spot of everyday relaxation and a place to host guests.

If you’re looking for general porch tips, then stick to wood. Most quality porches are made of wood and so are the tables and chairs, which you need to have. Because you don’t want to keep going back and forth for your drinks and snacks, less so have a guest doing that. Also, consider your degree of privacy. If you want your porch to be more personal a space, build it on the side of your home that doesn’t face your neighbors.

3. Make it a Long-Term Living Space Project (Make it long-lasting)

Retro. Timeless. Modern. Standing up to the test of time.

Classical designs with modern applications (white walls, dark floors) are, in a way, timeless. They give a sense of elegance to your home that will still fetch people regardless of whether 30 or even 50 years have passed. If mixed with contemporary and modern architectural design language a home project can strike the right balance between unique and modern, while still timeless and functional.

One of the other benefits of this sort of, modern-old-school approach is that it makes for very customizable living spaces, therefore granting them a longer life. As such, even if it sounds paradoxical when you are deciding on the style of your home, don’t think 100% trendy. Think good-looking and practical. Do make good use of good trends, yes, but always with a focus on making your project as accessible now as it will be years from now on.

That is why a good exterior matters. It should tell everyone what they’re in for. Think of it as a marketing statement that hooks you by telling you everything you need to know at first sight. As buyers, we love that sort of thing. A set of visual bullet points as to why this project out of the rest is our project. If we see an eye-catching timeless exterior that’s cozy to live in and easy to modify, we’ll bite, simple as that!
