The impact left over by the pandemic has changed our lives and homes is undeniable. Home Office work and the adaptation of our living quarters have become an essential part of our day-to-day lives and we must now live in a place that serves a dual purpose, whether we like it or not, but we must adapt to it regardless.
What we miss about Office Work Interior Design
We do not know when life is going to return to normal, but we do know that if it ever does it will not be the same. A large majority of companies have adapted to this new work-life reality because the home office reduces the need for physical space at company headquarters. However, despite the pandemic’s byproduct of commodity, we do miss having an interior specifically designed as a workplace and that is precisely what I am here to talk to you about.
An Interior Design Proposal to Combat the Issue
I propose then, that we should design flexible interiors in our homes, made specifically as areas of privacy that motivate a good workflow compared to the rest of the house and because of it, generate far more productivity without feeling that we are trapped in an inadequate working environment.
What is Flexible Interior Design and Why is it the Answer?
What am I referring to with flexible exactly? Simple. Flexible interior design is that which focuses on the functional, comfortable, well illuminated, and in general, a place that promotes concentration, just like a quality office. Said area must be located away from the kitchen and whatever noisy parts of the house. However, it is not the only fact that it will serve to boost work productivity during regular hours, but it would also serve as a dormitory after hours. In short, this will give a dual purpose to the bedroom.
Having an interior so valuable that is not used during the day and is only used during the night is a bit of waste if you ask me, a waste of effective space. Part of architecture is the effective and proper use of space, after all, why make new, specific areas as add-ons to your home when you can simply re-work existing areas with a different angle?
The answer, as you can see, was right in front of our noses the whole time! Sometimes the simplest solutions for these headscratchers are the ones that elude us the most. Let us work intelligently, not only in the ways of architecture and interior design, and we will both outlast the pandemic and anything else that might come our way.
